Manoj Bajpayee has spoken publicly about the choice: he had narrowed his daughter’s name down to two, and Ava was the first — a bird.

The second was Nayla, a great beginning. Her mother liked both names equally, and the family decided to keep the two together.

Ava Nayla was born in February 2011 in Mumbai, to actor Manoj Bajpayee and actress Neha — born Shabana Raza — who married in 2006. Her arrival was, characteristically, kept out of the press: the family shared the news only after the fact, setting a tone that has held ever since.
What is publicly known about Ava Nayla is what her parents have chosen to share, and very little more. She has appeared alongside them at film screenings, family occasions and in the ordinary run of airport photographs that follow her father’s work. Between those moments, her life is her own.

03 Family Legacy
Raised in the quietest corner of a very loud industry.
Her father came to Mumbai from a farming family in Belwa, Bihar, by way of theatre in Delhi and repeated rejections from the National School of Drama. He has since won three National Film Awards and was appointed a Padma Shri in 2019.
Her mother, Neha, acted in Kareeb and Fiza before stepping away from the screen. Together they have built a household that has stayed conspicuously private through three decades of her father’s public work.
