About
Ava Nayla
A profile assembled from the public record — and deliberately no further.

01 Profile
Born in February 2011, and largely out of view ever since.
Ava Nayla is the only child of the actor Manoj Bajpayee and the actress Neha, who was born Shabana Raza and worked under the screen name Neha during her years in film. Her parents met at a film party, were together for close to eight years, and married in 2006. Ava Nayla was born in Mumbai five years later.
Her birth was not announced. Manoj Bajpayee has been consistent, across nearly two decades of interviews, about drawing a line around his home; the news of his daughter’s arrival reached the press only after the family chose to let it. That instinct has shaped everything that has followed.
The name
Her father has described how the name was settled. He had reduced the choice to two — Ava, a bird, and Nayla, a great beginning. Her mother liked both. Rather than decide, they kept the pair, and their daughter has carried both names since.
In public
Ava Nayla has no public role of her own. She appears in the public record almost entirely in her parents’ company: at film screenings and family evenings out during her childhood, and more recently in the ordinary photographs that accumulate around a working actor — an airport arrival, a family occasion, a holiday.
Her father has spoken about her occasionally and briefly, and almost always in the context of his own work. In 2023 he explained why she had seen only a small part of it: “She’s 12 years old, most films are not age-appropriate.” He made an exception for Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, which she watched three times and told him was his best film — a response he found meaningful given that the film concerns the protection of a young girl.
What is not published here
A great deal. This site carries nothing about her schooling, her address, her daily routine, her friendships, her beliefs, her interests or any plans for her future. Where that information does not exist in a form her family has made public, it has been left out rather than guessed at.
02 Editorial Policy
“What is not known about a young person is not a gap to be filled. It is a boundary to be kept.”
A note on privacy
Ava Nayla is a minor. Every line on this website is drawn from statements her family has made publicly or from photographs that already circulate in the public domain. Nothing has been inferred, reconstructed or invented to make a section look fuller.
Where a page would ordinarily carry personal detail — schooling, interests, relationships, plans — that page has been designed around the absence instead. If you represent a publication and believe something here is inaccurate, or should not be published at all, please get in touch.
